"Perhaps (soon) Allah will establish love (and friendship) between you and those (disbelievers) with whom you are at enmity (many of the Quraysh will believe after the conquest of Makkah). Allah is Capable of everything. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful (to the believers)" (Surah al-Mumtahana, 7 verses). In the Noble Qur'an, we can find answers to our questions, solutions to all our problems and troubles in our earthly life. The Quran gives us hope and inspiration, help and advice. It is the words of Almighty Allah that teach us such qualities as a sense of community, solidarity and kindness. We have selected for you 5 verses from the Quran, which speak about the importance of interfaith peace and dialogue. 1. Our differences are the will of Allah. "And We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) a Book with the truth in confirmation of the Book that was before, and as a testimony about it (to determine the truth of the contents of the distorted scriptures). (So) judge them by what Allah has revealed (from the injunctions in the Qur'an), and do not follow their whims, while departing from the truth that has come to you. And We have defined the law (Sharia) and the path (leading to Allah) for each (community) of you. And if Allah had willed, He would have made you a single community (which would have adhered to the same religion throughout the ages), but He (divided you because) He wants to test you with what He gave you (different laws for each community). (Before death comes) hurry (ahead of each other) in doing good deeds. All of you will return to Allah, and He will inform you of all that you have been arguing about. (who of you is right and who is wrong, and who deserves what kind of reward)" (Surah al-Maida, verse 48). This verse of the Quran says that our lives and societies are created and prescribed by the will of Allah, which means that all we have to do is be the best Muslims, respect cultural diversity, remembering that Allah is the only Judge. 2. Our difference from each other is the wisdom of Allah. "O people! Indeed, We created you from a man and a woman, and made you peoples and tribes so that you might know one another. But the most worthy of you before Allah is the more God–fearing one. Indeed, Allah is All–knowing, All-knowing" (Surah al-Hujurat, 13 verses). Our differences from each other are not the cause of disputes and wars. We must understand that it is very important to be united not in spite of, but because of our diversity. 3. There is no compulsion in religion. "There is no compulsion in (accepting) religion (Islam). (After so many proofs and signs were revealed), the true path became different from error (disbelief). Whoever does not believe in taghut (that is all that people worship besides Allah), but believes in Allah, holds onto the strongest handle that will never break. Allah is All-hearing, All-knowing" (Surah al-Baqara, 256 verses). 4. We should not judge a person by their community. "And may the hatred of the people who prevented you from going to the al-Haram Mosque (in the year of the Hudaybiyah agreement) not encourage you to sin (to take revenge on them). And help each other in good deeds and piety (in avoiding the forbidden), but do not help each other in sin (in doing evil) and enmity. And fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is severe in punishment (of those who disobey His commands)" (Surah al-Ma'ida, Verse 2). The point is that we should help each other on the path of righteousness and piety. This means that we must show qualities such as compassion and kindness. 5. Those whom you consider enemies may actually be your best friends. "Perhaps (soon) Allah will establish love (and friendship) between you and those (disbelievers) with whom you are at enmity (many of the Quraysh will believe after the conquest of Makkah).
